Assessment
Students take written examination at the end of the programme, which are marked by external IB examiners. Students also complete assessment tasks at the school which are initially marked by teachers and then moderated by external moderators. All examinations are administered at Prva gimnazija Varaždin in May in the second year of the programme. Mock Examinations arranged by Prva gimnazija Varaždin occur early in the year. Formal examination schedules are set by IBO each year. Students are given notification well in advance of the examination schedules.
Results are published on 5 July for the May session.
Marks awarded for each course range from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest).
The grading scheme:
Each of the six subjects offered is graded on the following scale:
Grade 1 = Very poor
Grade 2 = Poor
Grade 3 = Mediocre
Grade 4 = Satisfactory
Grade 5 = Good
Grade 6 = Very good
Grade 7 = Excellent
Up to 3 bonus points can be awarded to students based on the overall performance in the Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. The maximum score for the diploma is 45 points.
Award of the Diploma
The diploma is awarded to students who have achieved at least 24 points (six subjects) and completed additional IB diploma requirements (CAS, EE, TOK). A student must achieve a minimum grade D in the extended essay and a TOK essay.
